SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The Canvas is actively looking for fresh new and exciting art.
We would love to consider your work to display in our beautiful
well-lit space. Our bar | cafe | gallery sees over 500 visitors
a day and is on the high-visibility corner of 9th and Lincoln
across from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
If you are considering submitting your work for review, we recommend
you spend some time at our venue to understand the space, the
type of art we carry, and our vision. Our review committee meets
once a month to review portfolios.
The Canvas focuses on progressive art at an affordable price point
(<$3000). In addition to traditional paintings, we will consider
sculpture and photography, as well as a limited number of installations
or conceptual pieces. The Canvas receives a 50% commission for
all sold or rented work.
The Canvas Gallery is also developing theme-based art shows. We
welcome you to submit your work for these shows. To review these
upcoming shows please refer to our listing of Upcoming
Shows.
General Submission Guidelines
There is a $15 review fee. Please make checks payable to The
Canvas and enclose with submission. If you are submitting a digital
file please send separately to 1200 9th Ave. San Francisco Ca.
94122. Please clearly reference to which submission the fee corresponds.
Submit 12-20 slides of available work. Label each slide with your
name and details of the work. Digital images can be submitted
on CD ROM or URL; please provide an accompanying Word document
with a list of each piece and its details. Photographs will also
be accepted, but must be clear and of good quality. Include a
resume, cover letter, and statement about your art. If you submit
a URL make sure that these documents are posted online. Also please
include a self-addressed stamped envelope with any slide or CD
submissions. Electronic portfolios or Web site links can be e-mailed
to art@thecanvasgallery.com.
Art and the creative process are amazing, but not all art is a
match for The Canvas. The work we receive is assessed for its
technical quality, originality, and its ability to enhance our
gallery vision. The review process takes from 6-8 weeks. Please
be patient, as we want to give your portfolio full consideration.
If your work is selected for further review, we will arrange a
studio visit with you to see the originals. All of our works are
on consignment from the artist. We have short-term, renewable,
non-exclusive contracts with many of our artists. Though our contracts
are not exclusive, we do request right-of-first-refusal from our
artists, so that we can offer our customers what we believe to
be the artist's best work.
If you have additional questions about portfolio review, please
call 415-504-0060 and we will be happy to assist you.
