Born: Oakland, CA
Resides: Mission District, San Francisco
Vision:
The Forrealist movement is lead by a group of mixed Indian artists
who create works collectively. Drawing from their cultural traditions,
and the wisdom and experience imparted by their elders, The Forrealists
use indigenous symbolism in their art. Striving to deconstruct
racial barriers they often couple these traditional mythological
images and traditional forms with Western icons. These colorful
paintings construct cultural bridges; expanding cultural continuity
and furthering an Indigenous consciousness.
Joaquin and Sean have been painting together for the past ten
years. Meeting each other in High School it was their shared passion
for art and interest in cultural politics that speared their friendship.
Education:
Sean graduated from UC Davis, BA in Fine Art & in History
Joaquin graduated from UC Santa Cruz, BA IN Fine Art & Digital
Design
Achievements:
Featured artist in the “Freedom Book”, 2003 San Francisco
