Jennifer Kane
Vision:
Jennifer Kane’s exquisite watercolors depicting iridescent
fish and delicate crabs were originally designed for a field guide
card of the San Francisco Bay, published by the California Academy
of Sciences' SF Bay 2K Project. The guide will be used by K-12 educators
and students as they learn about the Bay and its conservation and
participate in surveying the natural wonders of its myriad inhabitants
Kane’s graceful work is informed by evolution, extinction,
and tropical biology. She is drawn to the immediacy of watercolor
and sketchbooks and uses these as her primary means of expression.
Education:
B.S. Biology and Visual Art, Brown University
Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute: Panama, Fellowship, 2000
Certificate in Science Illustration, UC Santa Cruz
Achievements:
Member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators
Regularily Published in “Scientific American” Magazine
illustrating monthly column entitled "Staking Claims"
