Andrew Penn’s photography invites the viewer to reexamine
those features of the everyday landscape that are taken for granted,
maybe even invisible. His images are often composed of a minimum
of elements, allowing each line significance as they create serendipitous
forms and rhythmically hold open spaces in the sky.
Through the ephemeral perspective of the Holga camera, features
of the urban landscape are noted and rendered as objects in their
own right, gently teased from the meaning of their surroundings.
The multitude of steps that transforms the original image into a
handmade cyanotype print creates a dissonance between the familiar
subject of the image and the sense of what it could be. In doing
so he seeks to make visible the visceral experience of sight.

Education 1994 BA Psychology, minor photography, emphasis on the
psychology of aesthetics, University of California, Santa Cruz
2003 Currently pursuing Nurse Practitioner (Masters in Nursing)
